Elijah Mhlanga (born in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga) is a well-known South African educationist. Serving under the capacity of the spokesperson of the Basic Department of Education.
He also sits as the chief director and Media Liaison – National and Provincial Communication at the Department of Basic Education.
Although, he was involved in a scandal that made waves on social media following his tweet. Though he was of a good intention the message came out and was read wrong.
The way he portrayed the message as “a way of pushing boundaries to get the campaign” received a “sexist” consideration in some quarters.

Elijah uses the change his post provides to make sure that the educational system is headed in the right direction.
He holds an academic qualification that earns him the “champion of education” title, as many media sources address him, with his performance in the education system. He studied for a degree in Political Science at the University of Natal (1993-1995).
During his academic pursuit in the university, he was active in the Dome Newspaper, Durban Youth Radio, and SASCO.
Elijah also added to his educational background with a degree in Development Communication. He obtained the certificate from the University of Witwatersrand (Wits University) in 2014.
In 2005, he was employed by [email protected] SABC as Business News Producer until 2007.
In 2012, he occupied the position of director of Chrysaliz in Midrand.
For a year, he worked as the director of CORPMED Holdings (Pty) Ltd (2012-2013).
A seven-year service as C.E.O of Rimani Investments (Pty) Ltd followed. He left the company in 2015 after he began service in 2008.
In August 2013, Elijah joined the Department of Basic Education. To date, he serves as director of Communications & Research, Pretoria back.
The academic rather maintain a cagey way of life. The public is left in the dark on the details of his wife and children. However, the information he allows to reach the public is on his work and career progression.
The Bushbuckridge born educationist is active on social media. He takes to Twitter to update followers on his professional progress among other things.
Though he is also on Instagram, his account is private. This feature allows interested users to request and await his approval before they follow him.
