Babsy Mlangeni (born 24 February 1943 in Orlando West, Soweto) is a legendry South African musician. He has been entertaining listeners with good music since the 70s and 80s.

The African woman hitmaker has dropped many songs since she entered the music industry. He has managed to achieve a lot in the industry despite his disability.

Background

Babsy Mlangeni was born on 24 February 1943 in Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa

Although he is blind, Mlangeni has climbed higher in his career. In an interview session, he shared that “people think that if you are blind, there is noting that you can achieve”.

The journey was not an easy one though, she shared that he went from one door to another. Luckily for him, he connected with a producer.

According to him, the old era made it difficult. His reasons were that that era did not allow singers to sing in the English language and mix different languages in a song. It also did not allow on-stage performance with white artists.

A radio station left the musician and his family puzzled after declaring him dead on air. Fans were quick to as “is Babsy Mlangani still alive?” as they responded to the shocking news.

Thobeloa FM also played his songs during the segment and paid him tribute. The legendary musician is still alive and kicking. 

Private Life

Babsy Mlangani was married to Motlalepula. She died at the Bertha Gxowa hospital, Germiston in 2013.

This was a huge and second blow to the musician who had lost his son a month earlier. Their marriage lasted for a decade and he knew her for 30 years.

He lost his wife to cervical cancer and his son to stomach ulcers in such a short space of time. He has five surviving children. She was a co-founder of a company that specialized in printing any material for a variety of purposes – Kotulo.
